On the way home from a long weekend away, while driving through our nation's capital I snagged this photo of the Washington Monument while stopped at a red light.
In my brief 'red light' moment--comforted by the fake air protecting me from the three digit temperatures beyond the constraints of the car--I attempted to best the images taken by sweaty tourist, scattered across fields of green, who were exhausting their fingers with shot after shot. With one chance I captured the neatest part of the District: its color. Vibrant trees line the streets and summer months display a crystal blue, cloudless sky.
Washington, D.C. is described perfectly as a city of "mingled simplicity and grandeur" by M.E.W. Sherwood.
