Historical Moment

The news of the death of Osama Bin Laden was anticlimactic to say the least; it honestly took a minute (or ten) to register with me. In my selfish world I often forgot he was alive, consequently dead seemed rather normal.

After letting the breaking news sink in I never felt the jolt of pride for our country I noticed several of my peers eulogizing. It disturbs me to celebrate death, regardless of who it is. He might be directly responsible for killing innocent Americans--we have reciprocated by murdering innocent Muslims. And how far has that gotten us...

Regardless of who uttered the words below they provide an accurate depiction of my (and many others) sentiment:

"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that." (Anonymous)
